Q1: What is AMA?

Q2: What is the difference between the local membership and the national membership?
A2: In order to join AMA you must be a member of both the local and national chapter. The local chapter is for our ASU membersbip and dues are paid each semester where the national membership is for the national AMA and their dues are paid once a year and are good for a whole calendar year.

Q3: How much are dues?
A3: Local dues are turned in every semester. Currently Local Dues are $38. National dues are turned in once a year and are $45. (These dues are subject to change during the next year).

Q4: Do I have to attend every meeting?
A4: The member gets to choose which meetings they would like to attend. We post upcoming speakers and events ahead of time for members to plan their schedule. AMA members can be involved as much or as little as they choose in order to get the right experience for them. Only E-board members are required to attend every meeting. However, we strongly recommend you actively participate to avoid an embarrassing future interview.

Q5: How often does AMA meet?
A5: AMA holds meetings every Thursday at 4:45 PM in Discovery Hall room 150.

Q6: Can I join if my major isn't Business or Marketing?
A6: Students of any major are welcome to join AMA. This club is a benefit to any student as it helps its members build professional skills and make friends. We have students and E-board members from numerous fields of study.

Q7: What do my dues get me?
A7: Dues give the student membership and access to marketing materials online. Members enjoy benefits such as going to events at a discount price or for free, access to business professionals, career opportunities, weekly socials with free food, and an AMA T-shirt.

Q8: What are some events and community service activities AMA has done?
A8: In the past few years AMA has been to New Orleans for the national collegiate conferences, participated in Habitat for Humanity and AZ Quest for Kids, and has put on shadow day, etiquette dinners, mini golf and volleyball tournaments, a bowl-a-thon and several career days.  

Q9: If I have class during the meetings, can I still be involved?
A9: Even if you are unable to attend the weekly meetings, you can still participate in AMA events and fundraisers. However, if you wish to be on the E-board, you must be able to attend meetings on a regular basis.

Q10: How do I get more involved as a member?
A10: There are always ways for members to get more involved in the organization. The easiest way is to become a director for one of the Vice Presidents. A director assists the Vice President with their weekly duties and helps make decisions. Members are always welcome to help out with events and activities. The key is to be proactive and ask.

Q11: Who do I submit my forms to?
A11: The Vice President of Human Resources is responsible for handling new membership paperwork. During the Thursday meetings, this person will distribute and collect forms and provide new member information. Click here to download necessary local and national forms.

Q12: What is the dress code for weekly meetings?
A12: E-board members must dress professional for weekly meetings; however, other members may wear casual school clothes. There will most likely be a few events and meetings during the year that require everyone to be professionally dressed.

Q13: What are the requirements of E-board members?
A13: All Executive Board Members are required to attend all E-Board meetings Sunday night, general meetings on Thursday, as well as any AMA activities. Executive Board members must dress business professional for all Thursday meetings.

Q14: Are members required to go to the national conference?
A14: The national conference is not required. There is a specific number of members that can attend. It is a great event where ASU AMA members can meet other members from around the country.

Q15: How often are elections for the Executive Board Positions?
A15: Elections are held at the end of every semester.

Q16: What kind of speakers does ASU AMA usually have?
A16: AMA has speakers from all areas of the marketing industry including sales, advertising, brand planning, public relations, and more.

Q17: Do I have to be a member in order to play intramural sports with AMA?
A17: In order to play intramural sports with AMA, one must be a paid member.
